Amorphophallus tenuistylis - Samen

amorphophiles,

I just ordered seeds:

https://www.rarepalmseeds.com/de/pflanze...-tenuistylis-de

Because of the minimum order quantity there are now 25 seeds left, which I would give to forum members at cost price (80 ct per seed) plus postage and packaging (if desired consignment, parcel or package; 30 ct for the shipping carton).
Depending on the number of interested parties, not less than 5 seeds, max 10 seeds per interested party.

If you are interested, please send us a pn.

Happy sowing, Bernhard.

leider nichts gekeimt....

Hello to the group,

to retrieve and comment on the collective order...

The seeds (unfortunately I did not photograph them) were dry and without remnants of berry skin.
They looked very similar to paeoniifolius seeds, which I had already sown in a similar condition.

I laid them out in moist sphagnum and kept them moist; this sowing method usually works well.

To cut a long story short: The seeds have all become soft and rotten.

Whether they were tenuistylis, I cannot judge; as written above, it could also have been paeoniifolius in appearance.

The same with a friend in Hamburg; all seeds rotten....

Does anyone from the circle of others who have ordered seeds have anything more pleasing to report?

Unhappy, Bernhard.

Amorphophallus tenuistylis oder doch A. paeoniifolius?

Good evening or morning,

since I recently arrived back home, here is my slightly later contribution to the order assessment.
In my case I can record a seedling from the sowing of the seeds of said order.

Sowing
Immediately after receiving the (rather dry) seeds from Bernhard's order, they came underground with me.
Since I do not yet have so much experience with at least the sowing of Amorphophallus, I placed the moistened seeds in a finger-thick sphagnum layer - because at the moment only a small amount available, just one layer of sphagnum under and over the seeds. The rest of the substrate is a loose mixture of perlite, fibers, humus and some sand.
After a few weeks on the heating mat, contrary to the hope, a shoot appeared on the surface.

Plant
The attached photos are quite up-to-date (25.08.22).
As can be seen, the second leaf of the young plant formed (in my absence (to which my A. asterostigmatus also decided to flower...)). For comparison, a photo of the sowing of some A. paeoniifolius with a gap of less than a month to the sowing of A. tenuistylis (?).
That the seeds got mixed up can be ruled out quite safely.

I myself can not say for sure whether it is an A. tenuistlis or A. paeoniiolius or similar or not, but I think I can see at least a haptic difference on the leaf. However, this can also be due to slightly varied lighting conditions and the time interval between the seeds.

If anyone can say decisively that or not... feel free to comment.

Greetings to the group

Robin

Good evening

As a small update to previous post, here is a photo of the Amorphophallus taken today, which was the only one from my 10 seed packet of Bernhard successfully germinated.
I just continue to care for them and report to this at the latest when the tuber harvest is done again (or picture).

Greetings

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the update !

Still difficult to say what that is - keep us posted; maybe you can say more if larger leaves have grown.

Happy growing, Benrhard.

Hello

even if I don't know if Am. thaiensis seeds, I already tap Am. Thaiensis.
My plant had two such different stems last year. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures.
I also believe that a Thaiensis tuber is easy to recognize.

Greetings Olvi

Hi Olvi,

thaiensis makes seeds ( https://alangallowaybotanicals.com/plant...s/id/thaiensis/ ), but at least the fresh ones look significantly different than what we received as tenuistylus.

For comparison, here are a few paeoniifolius that I once bought on ebay: index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=8356

As already mentioned, the tenuistylus of rarepalmseeds.com looked very similar...

Let's wait and see...
If it should be thaiensis, the brood tubers would be very typical.

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Am. "tenuistylis" - Stand zum neuen Jahr

Good evening Bernhard and other seed scientists,

Again...
If it should be thaiensis, the brood tubers would be very typical.

On the. tenuistylis is very relativized as an actual species.
Here are two pictures of the one nodule from this very seed of your Am. tenuistylis seeds.

Greetings

Hi Robin,

That's exciting and will probably remain exciting...

From the tuber shape, however, I would rule out tenuistylus quite safely, because according to the picture at Alan Galloway, the species probably makes rather elongated tubers:
https://alangallowaybotanicals.com/plant...id/tenuistylis/

But let's wait and see what the new leaf looks like and how the brood tuber develops.

Happy growing, Bernhard.
