Am. dactylifer/longispathaceus

Hello everyone!

The last time I was made aware of the Am. dactylifer has been renamed to longispathaceus. Does anyone happen to know more?

Hello Sonja,

so far both names are accepted in the plantlist and no synonyms for each other.

dactylifer:

http://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/979838-1

longispathaceus:
http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/kew-8211
http://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:ls... g:names:84388-1

It may be that dactylifer, which was only described by Wilbert Hetterscheid as a (own) species in 1994, was again assigned longispathaceus (description 1911 by Engler); Maybe the differences were too great to allow dactylifer to continue as a separate species...
Both species were also verified by Wilbert Hetterscheid in 1994.
The distribution area seems to be identical.

With the variability of dactylifer, the flower could also fit longispathaceus, but this only applies to the outer view; may be that small differences in the flower organs may justify the species differentiation.

although I do not know if the last two left are reliable, I want to say whether the plants in the pictures have been correctly identified as longispathaceus....

I ask the experts of friends....

Happy id-ing, Bernhard.

Hello Sonja,

this seems to be true - longispathaceus had not originally been fully described, which could now be made up by Wilbert Hetterscheid; after that it turned out that longispathaceus is identical with the later described dactylifer and so the older name or description is correct...
In Kew, this has apparently not yet been put in place.

It may be that this link with an access permission is blocked...

So I think we all have to relabel dactylifer into longispanthaceus....

Happy labelling, Bernhard.

Jo, I also had this info that the article is blocked, so I didn't copy it in my group as a precaution ;) Otherwise I found almost nothing. Thank you for your mega fast reaction :D
Then I'll throw out the labels ;)

GsD I have no... With Amorphophallus this happens very rarely anyway, unlike with orchids, where renaming is the order of the day. And so that you really know your way around, some retailers also continue the invalid names, the assortment is thus larger.
