„Schneemänner“ - was tun dagegen?

In the bad season 2020 I have harvested many so-called "snowmen" and I do not like the form. I have no notes whether such tubers will grow better or worse next summer. Nor can I remember if the tubers have become round again – certainly not.

A solution to get round tubers again might be to separate the lower tubers before potting. Well, I can imagine that it negatively affects growth, but how much?

How do you treat such tubers? How do they get round again?

Greeting Olvi

Hello Olvi,

I leave such tubers alone and pot them if they want to grow again.
I am counting on them to be able to use the older parts to build the new tuber in the new growing season.

The problem is probably rather that the respective growing season is not long enough to eat the old tuber and then a part of the previous year's tuber remains.
As long as the lower part does not begin to rot and this continues into this year's tuber, I don't really see any problem in this either.

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hello Olvi,

I do it just like Bernhard and treat them just like round tubers. In good subsequent years they will be round again as normal, so the whole snowman is put into the paper. Exceptions can be the small amorphophallus like myosuroides, whose leaf remains too small to eat very large tubers. However, I have the impression that the incubators will also grow larger. The tubers then simply grow slowly into length. I wouldn't share them, because power reserves are never bad, unless you want to multiply the tubers along the way. However, I do not know whether the old tuber parts are still forming shoots; But I think so.

Greetings
Michael

Alt - aber nicht tot

When I looked through my pictures, I noticed a picture.

After that, Bernhard's approach and Michael's assumption are both correct!

Hello Klaus,

a beautiful structure ! - Is this based on pliers used to handle cactus pots?

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Yes Bernhard, this is my cactus tongs
By the way, the tuber is a henryi and the "lowest layer" that is just budding comes directly from Michael.
Unfortunately, the bud hasn't appeared on the surfaceyet index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=6981
