Amorphophallus dunni, beobachtungen

Hello

The plants were out all summer long. The warm summer has done them good; from 97g to 280g with a total of 19 brood nodules. There were two rotten tubers and one didn't start at all, maybe it's coming next year.:)

I got my first Dunni tuber years ago but only now, after documenting, I have a first overview of the behavior.
Whether one can draw any decisions from the list is another matter,
e.g. the plant always keeps the leaf about 3 months before the resting phase begins, or is the duration dependent on the tuber size in spring, a too small pot influences the duration, etc... ?
It is also interesting how quickly the move-in goes. Light and warmth of course play a role...

The most interesting observation cannot be seen in the diagram, namely how incredibly fast the tubers have grown in the too small pots. After only a few weeks I could see that the pots had emptied a bit. Unfortunately, I did not record the time.

... a comparison of the growth phases with z.B. Konjak would be interesting to see.
Even I don't have Konjak tubers, maybe someone in the forum has the data.

Hello Olvi,

when can you pot in southern Finland and then put the plants out?
Are there no more than 3 months for the leaves due to climatic conditions?

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hello Bernhard

This year I tried for the first time to keep several Amorphophallus varieties out.
I was lucky; firstly, the place where I now live has a very warm microclimate, and secondly, summer was the warmest I can remember.

At the beginning of April I potted, during the day the plants were outside the door. From the second week of May they stayed outside, it didn't work in the past – I had travelled. The summer was just extreme! The IGs have suffered!

I could have entered the vegetation period data in the chart, but I thought it was losing clarity. All plants in the diagram turned the leaf yellow at the end of July. In terms of the weather, they could have been outside until mid-September. Therefore, my question is whether Dunni only keeps the sheet for about 3 months. When summer is warm, it is easy to keep the plants in the garden for 4 months.

Even where I used to live, I always potted in April. The pots then waited in the garage for warm weather. At the end of May I could usually put the pots in the garden.

Hello Olvi!
I did not make any records, but if not everything deceived me, my dunni had bloomed at the end of April, the tubers that did not bloom are sprouted in the second week of May. Since I have not watered the plants for 2 weeks, the leaves are finally tilted... that is, the plants had stood with leaves for 4.5 months. However, in the greenhouse.

Hello Tom
Very interesting. Your dunnis are certainly bigger than mine. It is also logical that larger tubers keep the leaf longer. I hope to see the same thing next summer, because my tubers have gotten a little bigger in the three months.
