Erfahrungsbericht Auslandsbestellung / Zoll (BKInterplants Thailand)

Hello

I have just an import from Thailand behind me and wanted to share the process here so that anyone who thought about importing tubers, knows how it works in about.

To the prehistory: years ago, I ordered ever three Amorphophallus atroviridis tubers from BKInterplants on eBay. Amounted to a phytosanitary certificate. The delivery came to me without major incident. Did the Customs opened, but I had to no fees to pay. Unfortunately, the tubers were mouldy & smells.
The dealers promised me a replacement, the replacement was sent but no phytosanitary certificate and confiscated by customs.

Despite this experience I dared try again this year. 4 atroviridis tubers, 2 Pycnospatha arietina and two onions. The total including shipping was about €83.

Although I paid no express shipping, my delivery was already after 4 days in Frankfurt at customs. Great, I thought to myself! But again about 2 weeks went by until I thought she was in the hands. The dealer has a total of $7 indicated on the package what the customs of course has not believed, so I had them only to send to my PayPal account.

Finally, I stopped my tubers in the hands. When picking up at the post office, I had to just €5.65 inch and €6 to pay handling fee at DHL. Much less than feared. The tubers were all very healthy and were to drive out.

Today was unfortunately still a letter from DHL: the cost of inspecting plants have all needed, now I have to pay another €42.

So I arrived under the dash but at very high prices, so that I it me well think about the next time, whether I really need to import.
Gruß,
Christian

Hello
Thanks for your experiences.
That's probably always on the mood of customs officials. I had no problems so far; However I wanted to buy tubers at Allan G. recently and he has said that he does not, because of customs in Germany and Austria were the worst...

I made even bad experiences with customs in Germany. I ordered tubers in Holland already 3 times. 2 times everything went well.

The third time I ordered only a single small approx. 2 cm large tuber with the same private breeder, where the 1st shipping is easily lost. This time, only an empty envelope has arrived, which had a small cut on the side through which the Corm was taken out. In the envelope the tuber was packed well up and down through a small foam pad upholstered seat and again in a clip - deep-freezing.

Also the deep-freezing was cut.

All in all a big disappointment. I was wondering why the shipping took so long and then, finally came the letter with the tuber was pleased - as I said the letter was empty foam still inside and in the clip, deep-freezing were even many Earth crumbs - just any tuber.

Then I'm only then to the post office. They sent me to the inch. Then, the customs said the post would be responsible. Then I called hotline at the post office - and they said that you can do nothing because the tuber as a letter has been sent and there is no tracking number for this as a package or insured shipping.

Then I gave it up. Was nothing to do. The tuber was gone.

I think that thought, that it's drugs and the tuber was cut in the laboratory and examined. I think especially with shipping increased risk from the Netherlands seized parts of plants, or anything that looks kinda suspicious.

Anyway, I learned from it. I will insist on a shipping package or an insured shipping if I order plants from abroad.

That doesn't sound to me like a customs problem, but just after theft. The Customs would not comment send an empty envelope.
I order with tracking only, everything else a headache only one.

Christian

I don't think that it is a customs problem, the study had calculated sure friends...
I had still never problems with normal shipping, as I myself have sent to Russia tubers, supposedly nothing has arrived, and that 2 times in a row.

Well, the envelope was shut with a transparent, adhesive tape with green font glued to at here: "Open inch by Deutsche Post for customs clearance."

Sorry, I forgot to mention, that was also the reason why I went to the customs or the post office, to check, what I can do there.

I have the envelope here before me lie, if desired, I get out of a photo

Many greetings

Christoph

That would be but more than odd, because there are actually free movement of goods in the EU by special rules for protected or problematic plants aside.

That the Customs then unspecified can explain where the bulb is gone, is also strange.
Normal was that Customs had summoned you, to learn from you, what is it for a show. I think that the Customs just looked, the broadcast has forwarded and that a theft took place...

Whatever - it's a pity it is anyway...

VG, Bernhard.

Yes, Bernhard, something like it might have been good.
I thought, that the Customs thought it due to its effect if any part of the plant, :icon_shocked: are not permitted for us and that they took the tuber to examine them in the laboratory. But then they would have probably called me or sent a bill or something.
Would have been my second small Amorphophallus lewallei bulb :icon_frown: , one made it up to me.

This is really annoying, and above all absolutely unnecessary, because so is anyone helped.
