Mein Araceenbeet

Hello everyone

Last year in the autumn I have put on me an Araceenbeet with approx. 6x3m area directly behind the garage. The orientation is South-East, from approximately 12:00 it is shady. The ground, clay-containing dirt, I have been using sand, gravel and perlite loosened up. Various tubers have I drain operates well (to write that so?) with plenty of sand and fine gravel. I've got planted Dracunculus vulgaris, Arisaema and some Pinelliasamen.

These days, then I saw the first flowering shoots, but I have no idea what blooms. I put although plant labels, but only roughly. It is me not important, but rather what it all grows, that it grows well and looks good. When choosing I got of course expert advice, finally the individual tubers also should be suitable.

These days I've been amazed, when I discovered the first flowers. These 2 images.

The next days I will bury try there still Typhonium and a few sturdy Amorphophallus for the growing season until the autumn.

Greetings Ralf

Hi Ralf,.

There is Yes an exciting project!

But I can't place what there looks out of the Earth...

How cold is it you or the USDA would be zone? lt zip code in your profile should be Yes at Ulm; I think that has already significantly colder sien than mine in Lower Saxony, East of Hanover.

If I am not mistaken, a dead horse out of the Earth, which is planted there since the autumn 2016 looks at me
Helicodiceros muscivorus post #13 and 17...

I'm not sure if it really is the dead horse, but the job fit; I'll take a picture if I'm sure...

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hi Bernard,.
I live just south of Ulm, that's true. A few kilometers to the Swabian Alb, if you will.

We had this year in the Siberian week minus 16 degrees minimum temperature here. I have buried almost all at least 20cm deep the tubers, even mostly between 30 and 40 cm deep. Even the little ones with 1cm. I left me there on the advice of a friend, has already created something like that.

Arum italicum (I forgot above to enumerate), is been covered with leaves, and grows now again. I could bury the tubers only approx. 10 cm deep, and they have still survived it. Maybe it was just luck, but the winter was here already...

The Helicodicerus that I have of you, are now both ausgetrieben...und react visibly on the fertilizer solution, which I also have you

Interesting project.

The Arum italicum you need worry about friends probably least - who survives the winter in my unprotected. (Bavarian Forest with-25 degrees) As well it should be venousm no problem for Sauromatum. Arum maculuatum survives everything... Dracunculus is probably too cold for me – that was still no winter well :-(

Good luck!

Hello everyone

At a brief glance of control at my Araceenbeet, a somewhat unusual odor is me directly aufgefallen...und quickly found the cause. Very tempting for the flies, as I could see. And, a 2. Even larger flower is about to enjoy the flying. However, I thought that it's getting worse. So, I need me at least not have to worry, I'm driven through the village with pitchforks. Arum italicum has flourished even, but which has never stunk... Lucky.

Greetings Ralf
