Rissige Sauromatum Knollen

Hello

In the fall, I often crop S venosum tubers with cracks. Small tubers are usually ok.
In the Internet, I have found no explanation. Someone in the Forum knows why this is happening?

Many greetings
Olvi

So we don't have an answer, but with our A.konjac that happens again. You seem to have dug out the bulb but very early, still very fresh roots and the petiole?

Hello

Some tubers are even torn in the hand as gabs nen tore a loud noise and the tuber.

Ronny's comment I see now, I have to report:
Venosum plants did alone in the evening in the vicinity of my large S, and suddenly hear a noise as someone on the inside of one of the pots was knocking!

Oh... here just go haunt well I think I'm too tired or my brain is now the spirit... :icon_shocked:
I know, now, that was the sound of a bursting tuber. The s. tubers are harvested and all of them had cracks.

Hello Stinkmorchel,

Here is already fall weather (the fourth bad summer in a series :motz: ).
The day temperature is approximately + 10 ° C. At the weekend, the night temperature went down to almost zero degrees. The plants even just withstand that but grow no longer; before the potting soil is warm again after the cold night, the day is.
To be sure that the tubers receive no harm, I get it out of the ground.
The nights are colder I lose tubers. Then this happens: broken tubers.

Hey,
So that they can freeze above 0 degrees I imagine. For me winter regularly Sauromatumknollen. When I saw your picture the same I remembered now as 'Stinkmorchel'. I put all my bulbs when they start to turn yellow under a roof. Therefore, wither and dry at the same time. Maybe they are just too wet and absorb more water than they can store.

Hi Sven

You're right, tubers won't freeze to death. You survive-10 ° C, but get damage. I tried out several times before I learned that it's not good. The small have have no problems with the temperature over.

But with the wet and absorb too much water can be. :icon_thumbs1: I totally forgot about that! Years ago, I've covered the top of the pot with foil in the autumn. Why I do it and why I stopped, I don't know. At that time I wrote nothing unfortunately. I must try next fall again.

Here the weather of the last 2 where. 10 days it rained! On days with an asterix I've harvested tubers with jumps.
If it was so wet in recent years when I've harvested tubers with jumps, I still check.
