Der Biarum-Thread

Hello everyone
because there is still no thread to the genus Biarum, I wanted to make one time.

I have not known as the winter hardiness of Biarum is, so I wanted to share with you what kind I have unprotected survived last winter.
I planted last year from the following types:
Biarum bovei
Biarum carratracense
Biarum dispar
Biarum marmariense
Biarum rhopalospadix (Ric + tenuifolium SSP. abbreviatum)
Biarum tenuifolium SSP.. Idomeneum

Survived the winter have Biarum bovei and Biarum rhopalospadix, where any tenuifolium ssp. abbreviatum tubers there were. Also grows in the bed another Biarum kind, where unfortunately the label is lost geganen :icon_confusednew:

What have you done for experiences?

Many greetings,
Jakob

Hi Jacob,

I have various Biarum types, but still have to look after what they are and who still make a living. I cultivate all outside in pots. As a result, they are of course still more sensitive than planted. The first drive straight out.

So in April/May, when they pull up, I admit it and camp they completely dry, but in the pot out and rain protected. From August, I put it back free and let get rain. If there is no rain, then they pour a little. Then I wait for the shoots.

Three years ago, they were still in the unheated greenhouse, for 2 years, they are out there.

Greeting
Andreas

Hi James and Andrew, and all that.
Biarum is a genus of very interesting really.

As I, decided a year ago to record a few Biarum in my collection, had the only I know vendors from North Germany although many incredibly beautiful pictures of Biarum types on its Web site, said there but also at the same time with that he can sell at the time no Biarum for organisational reasons. To this day, I see there are still the same message. What a pity.
At the beginning of the year a salesman from Holland Biarum offered then davisii, since I bought myself then immediately three tubers:

One has been received by the three tubers, leaves the other two show now. And the smaller the bulbs on the third picture, seems to make some side shoots, so she will make secondary tubers underground well.

Directly a flower would have been nice, too, but we gardeners are so patient.
Love greetings,
ADA
