Protaraum sechellarum

< schnipp...schnapp > (abbreviated by the moderator) -.

Shreck, what happens if I delete the image attachments here? Are only deleted the dan or disappear in the original theme (tuberous crop 2016)?

See also the Protarum Sechellarum slowly pulls (if there is one). Does anyone have experience with this type? Think times hot and slightly humid in Sphagnum moss?

Hello Nokkie,

I have a Protarum sechellarum, but she did have a sheet after another.
I got it in August 2015 and she was at that time ca 10 cm tall.
The third sheet is now 50 cm high, the blade is 60 cm in diameter, and the petiole has 2 cm in diameter.
Whether the type makes a real rest, I don't know. So, how she behaves so far, would I through grow in the damp substrate.

How big is your plant?
Is this the first leaf, what moves you?

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hi, Bernhard

Thank you for your reply. So I have received it until just about 1 month ago. She arrived with sheet with me and an approx. 5 g tuber. Guess who has her coldness set to on the journey from Holland in the Switzerland (leaf was very yellow). The roots were not so great. They got yesterday unearthed after to see what the situation is and Lo and behold it come up healthy, white roots. I think so, the new instinct pushes through the old leaf through.

To the sizes I can unfortunately not very exact information make: diameter 40 cm height 25 cm. Just the'm sheet to remove because it is completely dried up. I'm still a photo of the sheet, tuber and roots I forgot to make one.:icon_xd:

Hi Bernard,.

Really very nice photos. So, my hand looked pretty much exactly as. so the Petiolenmuster and the shape of the screen, only hald yellow. :D

So I have me overcome now and once again dug up to remove the old blade. So it looks like it continues straight away. It didn't come all these white spots where the roots out and even old viable roots. Attach a photo. The nodules has a weight of 7 grams. I apologize for the quality but I have only a cell phone as a camera.:icon_frown:

Hi Ortwin,.

Since I haven't found much yet; lt of the below source for the sheet height from 65 to 120 cm specified, for the blade diameter up to 80 cm and for the bulb up to 12 cm long and 6-8 cm in diameter.

http://e-monocot.org/taxon/urn: kew.org: wcs: taxon: 165902

My plant was always on a heating mat with so around 22 ° C soil temperature.
Sure I have them only 1 1/4 years, I am more than pleased with the growth.
The way seems to be also is not very difficult in the culture.
You is a very porous substrate with a high Sphagnumanteil is kept constantly moist and is fertilized regularly.

If it continues, I think that it takes too long until the flowering ability.

Happy, Bernhard.

Hello Nokkie,

the nodules looks good!
I would keep it slightly moist and pour more again, and when the new leaf is unfolded.

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Blüte.....

Tubers fans,

After I start August saw a Kospe in addition to the petiole of my Protarum, I thought that it is a new journal, but...

index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3519 index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3520 index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3521 index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3522

The small leaves that was next to the flower, has done well in about 2 weeks...

index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3523 index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3524 index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 3525

I hope now that the plant makes a more tuber in addition to the great mother tuber.

Happy viewing, Bernhard.

update April 2018 / März 2020

tuber fans,

after my protarum didn't look happy in April (after flowering in September 2017), I stuffed it out and found it here: index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=5642

The tuber was mostly rotten.... :-(

Fortunately, the plant has recovered and already made a new strong leaf in 2018 and in 2019 another and today it looked like this:

index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=5643 index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=5648 index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=5644 index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=5646

I am particularly pleased that another new leaf is also growing; this gives us hope that with the better growing conditions (light!) a strong tuber will also grow.

Happy blooming, Bernhard.

Hello Bernhard,
is this your only tuber?
If so, you were lucky that she wasn't completely rotten at the time.
After all, it seems to be quite robust?
Definitely a beautiful plant.

Hello Ortwin,

yes, my only one; as written above in the theme, bought in August 2015 as a 10 cm plant by a rel well-known arece collector from Holland (ebay name: https://www.ebay.de/usr/patrickv3571 ).
Since then, he has offered offshoots/young plants from time to time; overall I think 4 times....

The species thus makes offshoots or small incubators, so that it can be reproduce vegetatively.
The fact that my tuber had rotted away so much has made me pale, but she has obviously recovered well.
But I will not pot them so quickly; with the new leaf, it should grow over the summer...

Happy growing, Bernhard.

update Juni 2021

Tuber fans,

after my protarum has already bloomed this year ( flowers 2021 ), the leaf had also developed well and was then at some point about 60 cm high.
Recently, a small leaf appeared away from the petiole; that's the first time my plant makes a side shoot and I was very happy after I had almost lost the plant once. (see #10 here in the thread)

And now the next surprise:
Next to the petiole floats a thick bud that looks suspiciously like a flower and next to the bud drives another leaf - I am very excited and curious how it goes on...

index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=7097 index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=7098 index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=7099

Happy growing, Bernhard.

However, the leaf tips of the first leaf no longer look particularly good.

Montag, 28. Juni 2021, 13:55

The overall appearance of the plant comforts me quite a bit......
But seriously - why the leaf tips turn yellow is not so clear to me; fertilization is carried out regularly; maybe it is sometimes a bit too wet, because with the pine bark, the pumice and the perlite above, it is not so good to see how moist it is underneath.
But I don't think the yellow leaf tips are too tragic...

I know that. With my giraffe knee, the leaf tips are also slowly turning yellow and a bulbifer is just getting violent leaf edge necrosis, for whatever reason. The other two at the same location don't have any yet. However, the leaves are also a bit younger.
