Grobe Einteilung möglich?

Hello together,

for me as a beginner, the huge selection of Amorphophallus is difficult to classify.

Titanum, decus-silvae, the difficult and very large species are probably gigas. These should the tubers in the substrate is large, and this only very low humid maintained. I hope that's as far right. Tropical conditions are probably ideal, but e is also different.

Konjac and Bulbifer are Arten...doch which are also probably the typical beginner?

Interesting links or instructions to worth reading topics are very welcome. Experience reports.

Best regards, Ralf

Hello

Another beginner species is A. albus.
She can be kept similar such as Konjac, just outside in a pot containing normal potting soil. She seems but against direct sunlight slightly empfindlichzu, so rather shady make something.
Primary Cormels are masses formed, but seems to be something flowering fishy.

Know you been the Amorphophallus soil/dormancy list?
Amorphophallus list dormancy/soil / substrate / storage conditions / rest periods

Best regards

Hi Hans,.

Thank you – as a forum to work... :icon_thumbs1:

Hi Ralf,.

I would classify titanum and gigas no longer difficult learned the hard way - but to this assessment I have used some time or, more clearly formulated, killed some specimens of this species - just... :icon_sad:

You should define yet in this respect that the tubers of the tropical Indonesian species should remain during the rest period in the substrate and then MODERATELY moist should be kept; during the growing season of course not moderately moist, but normal pour and fertilize...
Details also on the second sheet of the list indicates Hans...

Details here (post #4):
What Earth? Leave bulb in the ground? Origin?

In addition to the mentioned are certainly thaiensis, ochroleucus and verticillatus (the last two +/-periwinkle) good beginner species, which are easy to cultivate.
I would include also still atroviridis, operculatus and fuscus do this...

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hello and thank you for your answers. I did not know the list yet, and also the issues raised have been very interesting to read.

Pure Spaghnum as substrate, didn't think that this works. But somehow also hard to imagine this is the substrate in the tropics usually quite dry. The high susceptibility of the tubers to rot but suggests it must be so. Or at least very airy and loose. I get a titanum recently, and in a loose mix of potting soil, peat, perlite, expanded clay, and Aquarium sand 1-3 these potted mm. Fertilize I do with pond water in very small amounts.

I have all my Sauromatum in pure potting my konjacs. The next time I will mix something loose however. And at some point a few others happen with security. Currently probably only a few simpler types, but at some point even more giant. You pull me always in their Bann...egal, in which species.

Best regards, Ralf

Hello

I would roughly say that pretty much all kinds that should one dry winter, are suitable for beginners, while also demanding species there are. Specifically for the African species there are, are very difficult to maintain.

A. Aphyllus for example is a species that is difficult to maintain, because she likes it hot and sunny. When one of them gets seeds, this will certainly grow, but you get no flowering enabled tubers in our latitudes. Also species from Madagascar to be bitchy.
