Zantedeschia

I would like to now introduce another genus of Araceae: the room Kallah (Zantedeschia aethiopica). 9 months of the year it is outside in the garden pond, where the flower pot half in the water of the pond. This year, fruits have formed for the first time. I'll try if this young plants develop. Years ago I tried once with confidence on our mild climate, with winter protection out there to let the plant. But she did not return in the next year. Whether because of the frost or the voles were guilty, could not be clarified.

Hello Wolfgang,.
Thanks for the pictures. For 4-5 years, I have the "Zantedeschia aethiopica white giant" in the garden. As mini - young plant at that time from the UK will receive, just planted. In the meantime good 160 cm high, in June on a shock 8-12 flowers at the same time, huge in diameter, on beautiful eye height 180 cm.
It has established the first frosts, then I put a bucket over it as wetness protection. This stands already in March again because she starts to slide.
Our neighbors are always delighted when they see the Calla. Many in Karlsruhe have spread, so far all have survived the winter.
This year it has set seed for the first time. These I keep dry in the open air, then look in the spring. I wonder if because what grows.
A Handyschnappschus lower quality here, right of the Tetrapanax one sees the Calla.

Greetings
Andreas

Hello flood flower,.
It keeps up with offshoots in limits with me. And I cut off a few and these sit somewhere in the garden, or which sell in eBay, or in Garden markets of the region where we have always a stand off and on.

Hello Ronny,.
so in the Karlsruhe air there are no problems in General with Callas, in February 2012, she was already in the open air, because 2 weeks we each night to the 10 / -12 degrees, you survived it. The last winters are now mild here, two are conceivable, as can with us on the Rhine even Cannas and some Colocasien remain as failed outdoors.

Greetings
Andreas

Hi

Who wants to meet the climate more at his site, which is the following link recommended:
https://encrypted.Google.com/search?q=USDA+zone+Deutschland
Thereafter, long-time cold mean - 12.2 - 9.4 ° C is Karlsruhe in the USDA zone 8a. Since I live in cold zone 8B 9.3 - - 6.7 ° C, should do the trick even more with me with the outdoor winter. Of course deviations can occur at any time through the micro-climate on the ground or by unusual winter upwards or downwards. But nevertheless, it is valuable to know its climate zone.

MfG.

Hi love you
so I've now 2 winter in a row planted a Zantedeschia aethiopica and left without winter protection.
But, was the second to last winter as well over all, very, very mild and last winter we had little Frost and snow, which perhaps has isolated?
I guess we're 7a zone...
But she can't make an ordinary winter safely with us!
Love Julia

I can not recommend a planting without rain protection for Northern Germany.
Water don't like with cold dieeindeutig.
