Amorphophallus variabilis

Hello

I got an A. variabilis (AGA-0153-2) which is apparently preparing to flower.
What surprises me is the fact that the blade 15 cm high is just; also the tuber was very small - as far as I remember -. A. variabilis is now indeed a species with usually about one meter.
The plant is from Alan's stock and thus probably genuine.

Or is it maybe just a new sheet?
What do you mean?

Many greetings
Ortwin

Hi Ortwin,.

I don't have any variabilis, but that really looks like a flower.

Are there multiple tubers in a pot?
Or heard variabilis types that make a bud, while in the journal are available?

Happy blooming, Bernhard.

As Rajiv said, a medium-sized type that is so 1 meter high is variabilis. As the name implies, the size and appearance is highly variable.
I can not saw yet, that at the same time drives variabilis leaf and flower.

I myself have a few "Java giant" variabilis tubers, which are still very small. There, the sheet a lot is larger than 1 meter.

But one variabilis so small already blooming, is me still not under come.

If there is need, I will pass on the image of Alan and ask him again whether this is normal when his clone.

Anyway, this is clearly a blossom on the image.

MfG
Stephan

Hello Stephen,.

It would be perhaps interesting to hear what does Alan. So if you would... pass on the pictures

@Bernhard: It was originally a small tuber with multiple shoot tips. The two leaves are in October last year expelled.
Now, a new train was delayed. I thought it is again a leaf, but it looks more like a flower. I'm curious about.

Many greetings
Ortwin

@Ortwin:

I got response already. He said that it is abnormal, that it blooms even at this size. His tubers of this variabilis clone only blossom cm bulb diameter 8-10.

My question, why this happens, he that plants do not always behave the same, explained how people accept it.

In short. In the plant Kingdom, one likes jumps out of the series:D

I would watch the clone and retain a daughter tubers. Maybe you form Yes a dwarf:D

Hello

the flower is now open. Nothing has changed on the proportions.
She doesn't smell.
I even wonder if the tuber that next time again drifts out, whether she has retained the dwarf form or whether not drifting off with normal size.

The 3D version of the flower is available here:

Hi Bernard,.

No, "geduftet" the flower does. That would have been too good too much.
I made the image because of the better light conditions outdoors.

Hello everyone:D

NEN old post again understood...

I got one on. variabilis, moved last year from seed. Tuber had roughly 80 grams and 5.5 cm in diameter.

The bud moves quickly - like flowering shoots at...

But it should be a not possible? Or BB´s clearly is a sheet? What do you mean?

I can contribute something to the topic. Here my two variabilis from last year:

index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 4766 index.php? page = attachment & attachmentID = 4767

The little tuber has succeeded until shortly before the opening of the flower, it is unfortunately vetrocknet.
It is not but a variety that very small blooms.

An Amorphophallus veteran who has for Araceae in a botanical garden in the United States is responsible, told information for minimum tuber sizes for flowering is humbug, ultimately make Amorphophallus, what they want. :)
Gruß,
Christian

Thanks for the pictures, dryer flights!
The size comparison is already enormous, I wouldn't have thought.

Servus:D

First of all Michael - from the fumbling, I can not say whether leaf or flower:D

And Christian, very interesting, thank you. Then I hope - if it becomes a flower, that the tuber does not spend itself....
