Arisaema nepenthoides

HI: wave:
Yesterday I was on the Staudemnmakt in the BoGa Berlin. there I have purchased a bulb at the "Arisaema nepenthoides" was. Am but not so sure if it really is one,: ops:: ops:
The other Arisaemaknollen that I bought so far were little misshapen: /, and which was the A. nepenthoides roundish, slightly flat.
Here are some pictures of the tuber:

Whisk Brigitta shoo underground...It is already roots. : wave:
Secure provision will bring probably only the leaf and the flower.

Hello and good morning!

This update to Arisaema nepenthoides I want to show you for quite some time. The first recording is from February 20, since I have the shoot discovered the first Arisaema in the Garden this year, then it comes out more slowly, and the flower goes on. Only when the flower is fully developed, the foliage begins to unfold, you look this good on the penultimate recording, the last photo is then the whole plant.
Have fun watching!

Hello Ada,

Very nice!

Remarkable how far nature on the Lower Rhine is already.
With me (40 km east of Hanover) the crocuses are already through, chessboard lumens bloom, Allium and Dracontium look out of the earth, but I have the impression that it is not as far as with you.

Happy growing, Bernhard.

P.:... just seen walking through the garden that the planted dead horse is still alive... :-)

Hello Aronstab :icon_angel: Family Friends ,
the garden year 2020 has been beginning for some time, and the Arisaemas, which I really appreciate so much, are also showing up - outside in the garden it is, as always, the Arisaema nepenthoides, which has been showing its instinct since the first half of February, now it is really starting to grow. :

Every year a great spectacle. The Arisaema tubers, which I have wintered in the cellar, also show strong shoots, which I will do from tomorrow, since I finally have time for my plants, potting and putting in the greenhouse. You like it cool . . . . .

Greetings,
Ada

Great, what happens to those who should have night frosts again? Do you protect them there or can they do that?

The bigger flavum is already pushing here.

Hello Ada,

beautiful that you have awakened from the winter sheep... ;)

Do you know when they have been expelled in previous years?
My dead horse was 8 wohee earlier this year than last year....

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hello mist beetles,
a few degrees frost can already leave this Arisaema. She is one of the early triggers, just like Arisaema ringens - I would only cover it if the frost goes well below -5°C, although they have already endured it.
It's nice that Arisaema flavum is already stirring with you.

Hello Bernhard,
yes, the dark season is definitely over! :-DI already had something like hibernation, a kind of mental inertia . . . :icon_coolnew:
When Arisaema expelled nepenthoides last year, I can tell you, even in February. I found a photo from 2019, which is from February 23rd, look:

index.php?page=Attachment&attachmentID=5623

So it's been pretty much exactly the same in 2019. In the years before that, that is their rhythm, so in this case it is not the fault of global warming.

Greetings,
Ada

This is what my A.nepenthoides looks like since April until now the end of August:

Since I dug the top of the tuber a bit, I have the impression that something is happening. Or does A.nepenthoides grow so late?

18

Mittwoch, 8. September 2021, 14:04

What do I do if they actually only sprout in the autumn, take it in?

19

Samstag, 11. September 2021, 22:50

Hello Botanicus,
Arisaemas have different times when they sprout, but in my experience they are already fixed on these times.
So there are species that sprout so late in the year that it can irritate even a very patient gardener, who then begins to carefully scrape in the pots to see if something is happening.

And there are species that sprout very early in the year, sometimes already in February, including A. sikokianum, A. ringens and A. nepenthoides. Above you have probably already seen pictures of the early sprouting in my garden.

As for your tuber, it should not sprout this year, it is probably waiting for the early next year. In any case, no more watering now. How did you plant them? Pot or outdoor? In your photo, it looks like it doesn't sit very deep in the earth, but it should.
Did you take a photo of the tuber when you received it? And what is their condition at the moment?

My advice would be to remove the tuber from the soil now, clean it, scan for rotting spots, etc., and let it dry. Then she should hibernate in a cool room. I bring removed tubers to the cellar (which is not removed or heated), and place them in pots with dry kokohum, just covered, then I also see the shoot when it comes. There are also various other storage methods, take a look here in the forum at the Amorphophallus tubers.

Regards
Ada

Mine is in the pot about 10cm deep on the balcony, I have only dug it a little free to see what is going on. She definitely had white thick roots in August. Otherwise I would have left them dry in the pot, wrapped in winter, protected on the balcony. It is supposed to be hardy according to the dealer.
Unfortunately, I do not have a cool cellar, ours is warm despite the old building!
Leave the refrigerator or just balcony, wrapped and protected directly at the balcony window floor.
So my guava and lemon verbena also hibernate.
