Alocasia Aussaht

I'm trying to bring some seeds of my Alocasia to life for the first time... Here are some photos of the fruit where the birds have left little choice, flower and pot, which now is covered in the House with foil. Does anyone here have an idea whether it's going to a fast plant?

Hi,.
exactly I have tried this year also the same, probably of the same ilk (I suspect that it is a 'Calidora', but without warranty...). Have sown at approximately 16 to 18 ° C they, what is actually too cold for Alocasia. Nevertheless, the first activity was visible after just over a week, it should go so really quickly at higher temperatures.
I have both seeds taken from dry, as well as of fresh wet berries. The dry grains have become mushy within a few days, I'm so assuming that the seed is hardly suitable for storage.

By the way, if it really is our copies the 'Calidora', the seedlings will be extremely different, both size and vigor, as well as the sheet form are concerned. The correct name for the seedlings would then Alocasia (odora x gageana) x self.

Hi, also think it involves a Calidora but am not 100% sure... What are you doing with the plant in the winter? I that every winter's hollow greenhouse but is always a wall around! Thought this winter just a dig the tubers to plant again in the spring, to once again to "renew the Alocasia" am not sure whether it is a good idea. Tip's?

You can do that, however, the plant needs some time to recover. Get the most beautiful and largest specimens only in bright winter. I have to work the lucky at a nursery, my big wintered in a temperature-controlled greenhouse and stands in the summer outdoors in a sheltered place. Now it is but too big, approx. 1.50 m master plus 2 m leaves, next winter, I must cut all leaves. As long as the roots remain intact her hopefully not much matter which would be a pity if the foliage is not so gigantic.

Lucky but in a greenhouse to work! And those are beautiful photos on your flickr page great! Are you in you home?
I sneezed my vomFrühling until beginning of November in the full sun garden, and that; never a burned hand and many flowers (mine in Parma it is very often over 30 ° C from June)! Now I cut the leaves up to the latest for each tribe but one himself for a few years a bit "put" and would now cut may just the stem just above the first leaf node. Then, the pot looks good times again for a while...

Thank you! No, that most of my plants are working, got there a little space available.
If you cut the trunk now, you should bepudern the cutting surface with charcoal or cinnamon maybe as a precaution and then in Earth plants, if good growth conditions prevail (also in Parma it will be now relatively cool...). I'd wait until spring, then you're on the safe side. On the other hand, it would be but maybe also a good test to see how robust is this plant...

I know it's a little then capped the plant probably not the right time... but. Let's see how you react.
