Amorphophallus für Anfänger

Hello dear,

I would like to venture on these interesting plants. Can someone offer me an appropriate type for the entry? I'm afraid the time is unfavorable because the tubers just exorcise?

With me are all light conditions from South to North / outside or inside there, and I'm well equipped even with substrates. I by the way also like to trade if interested someone for carnivorous plants (-> http://www.carnivoren.com).

Julia Williams...

offer I can unfortunately not tubers, because I start even with the Amorphophallus.:icon_nosmile:

But: try it may look easy with deducing from the outset, i.e. about seeds.

I got mine a few weeks ago A. bulbifer and A. paeoniifolius bought as seed.

Both are available on eBay. A. bulbifer A. paeoniifolius (sprouted above) here from Germany, from Thailand.

Now, also the A. paeoniifolius germinate and I am all in all for the beginning quite satisfied and

now eagerly waiting for the things that may come...:icon_coolnew:

It is of course always times a surprise possible i.e. the one or other evolving plant,

at the end is a different type than the originally purchased (see more posts here in the Forum), but I

first time not so closely can see that because I would like to first of all collect experiences.;)

The one or the other can not become friends here with my approach, but everyone like he likes...;)

About 25 years ago I had also carnivores, walked in at that time similar and had it at the time at least

applied to a collection of about 40 species, what was not quite soooo easy, because the carnivores to this

Time were anything but common. Internet and eBay was not at that time also...:icon_rolleyesnew:

Otherwise you get one or the other bulb, E.g. A. myosuroides through eBay sometimes, etc.

LG and much success with the Amorphophallus!

Hi Julia,

the beginners at all is A. konjac. You get the almost always on ebay for 1-2 EUR. Another simple Arum type is Sauromatum venosum, which until recently still Typhonium was called venosum, and offered under two names.

Andreas

Hello

Thank you for the answers. I'm a little surprised that here in the trade forum to the seed purchase on eBay will be me (I think Amorphophallus belongs to the genera, which are often "hyped" and is thus driven on eBay much playing fast and loose, especially with seeds like the carnivorous plants). Also I write here in the "marketplace", there must be other advice as "look but on eBay"...?

So me advice to keep time on Andreas': I'm looking for A. konjac, and I wish to not receive him through eBay. I don't know anything after all and can not detect whether I get actually there A. konjac...

Greetings,
Julia

Best of Julia,

I have advised you not to eBay, but named only a possibility of reference

and incidentally mentioned how I went out as a beginner and still do...

I have also addressed the disadvantages...:icon_confusednew:

Since Andreas writes that A. konjac is "the beginners", you can assume that

also pretty sure A.konjac can get on eBay, because it is so quite widespread.

You must examine offerings stop already with eyes wide open and a few reviews

read the (eBay seller). Then you know very well where you "turn" and has the

Chance ever to snag the one or other, somewhat rarer type.;)

The Chinese or Indian grocery store around the corner from time to time has Amorphophallus

(as a tuber vegetable) in the offer. I do not know what that then for ' a kind is. So what??!

Trial makes kluch and can provide if necessary also for the one or the other (positive) surprise.

Les friends just a few more posts here in the Forum by. You'll find that

There are some ways to get tubers.

Possibly, but actually anyone here has left a tuber...

As I mentioned already, but at the beginning: each as he likes!:icon_thumbs1:

LG

Jens

Hi Julia,

that one must be careful on ebay, is absolutely right. My recommendation is also only when the two types mentioned by me, because these are more or less the Volkswagen under the Amorphophallus. If you sold you a different bulb, it can be only more expensive. On ebay, I buy only if I know the seller as reliable, or if seeds are offered so cheap, that I will take the risk to get something wrong.

If you have a little patience, I can send konjac a few A.. I haven't but currently little, so you'd have to wait a few days. If you're interested, I just write a message.

Greeting
Andreas

Typhonium ulcers and A.konjac and A.maxwelii tubers I would be out yet where have. Are rather small to very small (the A.maxwelii are tiny tubers I leave), should look at whether which are not yet sufficiently driven by the larger tubers have. What Kanivoren do you have to give the just to Exchange?

I agree with predecessors. Is konjac very suitable for beginners. It is actually the way to the start.

The Paeoniifolius seeds from ebay I believe, no paeoniifolius but A. koratensis. I bought your own seeds on ebay.

The real paeoniifolius isn't very suitable for beginners. When it comes to wrong substrate and humidity is quite vulnerable.

Hello

Thank you for your contributions. The rest can be better per message.

And one more note to Jens: thank you for your advice with eBay, it was just well meant. I would advise against however generally, by a specialized forum like this here on eBay reference. This applies also for beginners (actually just right), because they do not know which species are suitable or which actually get at the end with an eBay purchase.

Greetings,
Julia

So ebay is not so bad. That is probably the main source of various kinds. I buy there very often.

You can look at ebay and ask here.

i-Bah friends and skeptics,

both are of course right.

Who titanum at ebay or want to buy other, rare Amorphophallsarten, should be sure somewhat cautious for good reason, some caveats.

1 The Kultubedigungen get acquainted; here in the Forum, in other forums or on the net.
As example learns that titanum probably German spring to autumn in the garden is not cultivable and the rest period not dry and cool be held at can.

2. Via google search for images of the transfrontier nature
When offered the kind with stunning images from the Web that are also protected by copyright, I ask myself whether the provider has the permission of the use of the image. A demand for the copyright holder is often revealing.

3. If the supplier ask for further images of own flowers, the blade or the blade shaft!
That you can with reliable images on the net then compare (just reliable sources, eg www.aroid.org ) or set in forums and get the opinion of experienced collectors.

4. The provider to ask whether a seedling or a Cormel is offered.
If eg titanum or gigas a Cormel is offered, you can assume that the provider doesn't know that these types do not Cormels.

5. The provider to ask where the seeds or its mother plant.

For further suggestions/hints to the Amorphpophalluskauf on ebay there sure is.

To note is that nobody is immune from, having bought seeds or tubers under a false label of art and to resell them. This can happen unfortunately.

Yes, this example shows that it can be also different:
Succulent collection-Daba Daba succulent plant collection and lindtrom on ebay

Happy bidding,
Bernhard.
