Amorphophallus John Tan

Hello

I stumbled today hybrids by chance on a unique Amorphophallus

(Source: Aroid.org , http://www.amorphophallus-network.org)

It is the first successful hybridisation of A. titanum.

More specifically, it is a hybrid of A. variabilis x A. titanum.

Here times a gallery:

Hi
Very nice part!
208€, however, are a proud price for it! :icon_erschreckt: .....dagegen is the A.titanum Yes really cheap:icon_wink2:
Since I'm waiting but better until the demand decreases and the price range is no longer quite so utopian high.

Is the plant of the same cultural requirements such as the A.titanum actually? Know what someone there about it.
Viele Grüße Walter

Moin Walter,

whether the price for sinks, simply depend on the ability to Vermehren.
If the hybrid has inherited the property of breeding tubers formation of the mother plant (variabilis), it will take some years to as more primary Cormels are available.
If the hybrid makes any Cormels, remains the proliferation of leaf cuttings, that must be also not much faster, even if it works.

I would guess the claims as titanum-like, since the mother on Java is based; so tendeziell heat-loving. It would be interesting, whether the hybrid (titanum) has similar to rugged/rough leaves as the father...

Happy waiting (for lower prices),
Bernhard.

Hello

I was able to with the seller (quite well-known Amorphophallus lovers) in touch and have the following information to the plant.

Vermehren can only by leaf cuttings or invitro culture. This hybrid is not primary Cormels.

Keep you can such as A. titanum. Could be the bulb in the greenhouse at 75%-80% without substrate Hibernate. But, it is better to put it in substrate and only slightly to water.

One can argue about the price. Titanum are also not significantly cheaper tubers in size.

Only 5 seedlings have emerged from the actual project, of which 3 were killed. There were only 2 seedlings that have made it to bloom. Thus not much will spill in the years to come it on the market.

Hi
Aha, so a not quite easy-care Diva!
The size (an estimated 2-3m on the hand) the plant would living room/greenhouse well fit.

Well, then we simply continue dreaming of this beauty and maintain the A.titanums flowering capacity for meanwhile.:icon_smilenew:
Viele Grüße Walter
