Yesterday another IG flourished and today 3 (one IG and 2 times Olvi's brown spotted clone)

This year there is again a new size record for the leaves of the normal venosum. One of the two tubers with just over one kg has a leaf with a diameter of about 1.10 m on an 85 cm long stem. In the second, the leaf is only about 1.05 m in diameter. For both, a third leaf is coming this year.

As expected, the big IG also has larger leaves this year. However, this time this does not manifest itself in all external dimensions. This year, the leaves even have a smaller diameter. This is mainly due to the fact that the plant probably no longer spreads the leaf properly due to a fully sunny state (the first time this year) and the feather leaves, which are already larger than in the previous year, are strongly overhanging and wavy.

Also in the Lake Tana form, the leaf is getting bigger from year to year and again this year there seems to be only one leaf in the largest tuber (just under one kg). At least so far nothing of a second sheet can be seen. A 60 g tuber of the Lake Tana form had recently bloomed unexpectedly, but one with 90 g had not.

This year there is again a new size record for the leaves of the normal Venosum. One of the two tubers with just over one kg has a leaf with a diameter of about 1.10 m on an 85 cm long stem. In the second, the blade is only about 1.05 m in diameter. Both will have a third sheet this year.
The first leaves are not only huge in both plants, but also have strikingly wide pinnate leaves. The expression varies from year to year and within a year even from leaf to leaf. The 2nd and 3rd leaves have pinnate leaves in "normal" width.

In the meantime, all Venosum variants are waking up from hibernation. This at currently about 9 °C in winter storage. But not only tubers wake up, at whose size I expect a flower, but sometimes also smaller ones. But that doesn't have to mean anything. After all, the smallest tubers ever flowering with me weighed only 28 and 30 g when planting.

The IDs had partly flattened the tips of the buds due to lack of space. 8 days ago, there was nothing to see of it. In one of the very big ones, not only the main bud drives, but also a few buds in the places where the now broken off brood tubers still sat in autumn.

There will be no new record sheets this year with my normal Venosum. The tubers were larger than ever before, but they are fully sunny this year and therefore have comparatively small leaves and the first leaf is normal again with regard to the width of the pinnate leaves. For this they already have 4 and 5 sheets.

Quite different from the plant (same clone as the two large tubers), which already had strikingly wide pinnate leaves as a brood tuber. For the third year in a row, it shows these broad pinnate leaves, whereby their brood tubers are again inconspicuous. Whether the plant also shows these broad pinnate leaves in the subsequent leaves, I will see this year, because for the first time there is more than one.

Speaking of several leaves, there are also several larger plants of the Lake Tana form this year.

In the brown spotted variant of olvi2004, the spots are green particularly quickly this year. Otherwise, the brown color has persisted about 1 to 1.5 months after the unfolding of the leaves. This time it was gone shortly before full development. This variant is now only noticeable by the darker leaves. Let's see if the stems turn intense red again in the lower area in autumn.
