Hello Arum friends,.

Since last year I have a Lysichiton americanus - I hope in any case that it is one, really knowing it always only when the plants are in bloom.
The plant should know no longer are traded under European law, because it belongs to the invasive neophytes. So I'm really curious to see whether I have it now, I would like to see the large yellow flowers.

The plant was very small when I got it, I have it dug a bricklayer bucket 45 x 65 cm, without flue holes, and filled with Earth and water. The plant is to Yes here also not so greatly widen.

This year she got bigger then leaves, her place she likes it so very well.

Here are three pictures, the first two of the 17.11.18, the third of the 8.12.18, it now moves. Only the black tip remains in the middle are, let's see, what is she doing in the spring.

Love greetings,
ADA

Hello dung beetle,.

Here: https://www.galasearch.de/plants/11752-lysichiton-americanus also says that the trade is prohibited.
But that is not officially (official) page; does anyone know where you can check so what?

However, many deals, which displays an aunt to google talk:
https://www.Google.com/search?client=FIR...i71.savlLJcLKlo
It is in many offers, however, that the form is not available or no longer in the range.

Here https://www.nabu.de/tiere-und-pflanzen/a...nionsliste.html there is a link to one of the EU regulation and one pdf with a list of invasive and alien to the area classified species; It also Lysichiton is listed and lt regulation should they actually not traded or even kept...

Happy growing, Bernhard.

On the other hand, the page says but also the following:
"Is, however, to expect that also the national legislature will prohibit trade and culture of the way for Lysichiton americanus."

Hello everyone

Lysichiton americanus has done well in its dug mason's bucket, in the summer I just had to think about replenishing the water, it didn't rain. But I loved doing that.

The first photo I took in May, the leaves have already grown really big this year.
The second photo is now from November, I thought the plant is now slowly going into rest, but there is something happening, somehow there are fresh tips.
Let's see where that leads. I haven't seen side shoots on the surface this year, at some point I'll pull out a little grass and weed in the bucket and see what the rhizome does.

Greetings,
Ada

Hello Ada,

a dug-in bucket obviously has advantages - I tried it with L. americanus 2 or 3 times in a 90-L mason's bucket, which was not dug; the species has never survived the winter...

It looks really good with you!

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Hello Bernhard,

yes, I am also glad that the plant has become so strong. And I'm also curious to see what happens next winter. But since the bucket is dug in, it cannot freeze so quickly, so an ice block will not be caused by the soil heat. Last winter the lowest temperature here was -9°C.
Someone recently said that we are getting a harsh winter . . . . Let's see, you can't say that yet. It only gets really cold here when the north-east current from the North Pole invades the west here in January/February, as in 2012/2013 - but mostly this current descends over the USA. :D

Greetings,
Ada

Hi Aroid friends,

Lysichiton americanus already had a few flowers last year, but it all looked pretty puny.
This year he finally really gets going, with many flowers that rise one after the other, leaves that are already slowly becoming huge, and even side shoots are beginning.

This looks crazy, if already from afar the yellow flowers shine through the other scrub.

regards
Ada

Hi Ada,

impressive to see how well and quickly the plant develops!
If the seeds start, I would be happy about pictures.

In Hanover in the Berggarten there are also large specimens at the edge of a pond or artificial stream...

Happy growing, Bernhard.

Interesting! In the botanical garden Berlin it also grows freely in the swamp area / swamp edge. There is also the Lysichiton camtschatcensis, which blooms snow-white. I took photos of both.
