Kein Blumen, Viel Mücke?

Mein 7 Amorphophallus konjac habe geoffnet. Sie haben kein Blumen, aber gibt es viele Mücken. Warum?

My 7 Amorphophallus konjac have opened up. They have no flowers. They are just stems and leaves. There are gnats/flies around them, but they aren't in bloom. The gnats/flies are not in other parts of the greenhouse. They do not smell. Why is this?

Hi Amorphophallus,

hard to say.....
How big are these gnats/flies? A picture would help.

Happy photographing, Bernhard.

The gnats are VERY tiny. Too small to measure. Not even half a centimeter.

This sounds pretty much like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sciaridae
Read the part "Pest status"
pictures:
http://www.google.de/images?q=Trauerm%C3…ge_result_group

They are commen when you use non sterilized or very cheap compost and when the substrate is kept very moist.
The problem is that the larvae feed partly on roots and they can kill a plant when the population is big anough.

Good luck, Bernhard.
