A. paeoniifolius roots dying

Hello all,

got a question. Yesterday I received a small bulb of A . paeoniifolius. During shipping, which took almost 2 weeks it started to grow it's roots and when I got it the tips of the bigger roots have started to turn brown.

What should I do now?

Best regards

Willem

The roottips turn brown because they are too dry (I've understand you haven't pot them). Put them in soil!

Thanks for the answer. Got the bulb yesterday late and didn't have any perlite left, so I put it in a small windowsill greenhouse, with high humidity and a wet paper towel around it. Put it in soil today.

Hopefully it isn't damaged too much.

Anything else I need to do? Never had this problem.

Best regards

Willem

A.paenifolius is not so difficult to grow, it will make new roots.

I have good hopes it will become a nice big plant.

Thanks again for the answer.

Willem,

keep the substrate rather damp than moist or wet; the tuber / plant does not need a lot of water till the leaf is unfolded.
Too much moisture could be bad with the dried root tips.

Happy growing,
Bernhard.

Thank you Bernhard for the extra info. I have put the bulb in fresh damp soil and will start watering it a bit more when I see it above the ground. Just like I do with the other Aroids I have.
